Arranging Shipment

We will confirm your booking by email, together with the intended vessel, if you are delivering your vehicle into one of reception centres, we will advise you when the car needs to be with us by. If we are collecting your vehicle, we will call to ensure we have all your details and that someone will be around to meet us. Our Booking Reference will enable you to track your vehicle on our web site. Remember that we only require 50% payment up front the rest can be settled prior to your vehicle’s safe arrival in the U.K.

Vehicle Reception

Once we receive your vehicle, the carshippingmadesimple.com team will prepare a Vehicle Condition Report, which will be emailed to you.

We will deal with all the paperwork required to get your vehicle into the United Kingdom.

Your vehicle will be carefully stowed within a container by our experienced team. Containerisation is by far the safest method of transportation. You can easily track your shipment via our web site.

Of course, we will take very precaution to avoid any movement or damage to your vehicle whilst in transit. However, we strongly recommend you take out comprehensive marine insurance to cover any eventualities.

After Shipment

Once your vehicle has been shipped we will arrange for the Bill of Lading (Your Document of Title) to be sent to you, this will enable release of your vehicle at destination. Carshippingmadesimple.com will be in contact with you prior to the arrival of the vessel. We will take care of all the necessary Customs formalities.

Prior to collection of your vehicle, please ensure you pay the remaining 50% of your invoice.

All imports from the USA are subject to Import Duty and Tax. However, you can import it tax-free if you have owned the vehicle for at least 6 months and have lived outside of the EU for over 12 months. You can then Import your vehicle under the Transfer of Residency Scheme (TOR). However, once imported you cannot sell or hire your vehicle for a period of 12 months after the importation date.

If you don’t qualify for the above then for Cars over 30 Years of age the Duty rate is Zero and you can benefit from a reduced rate of Vat at 5%. For Cars under 30 Years of age the Duty rate varies, please call our office for further details, VAT is levied at the full rate of 20%.

Prior to using your car on the road, your vehicle will be subject to a number of tests and modifications. Any vehicle under 10 Years of age at the time of importation has to go through an Individual Vehicle Approval (IVA) test and a Motorcycle Vehicle Approval (MSVA) test for motorcycles. There are a number of modifications required to pass the IVA test. These mainly involve adjustments to the indicators, sidelights and fog lamps.

If your car is over 10 years of age, then an IVA test is not necessary, however your vehicle will have to pass an MOT prior to being allowed onto the UK roads.

Once all the necessary modifications have been made and the vehicle has successfully passed the IVA test, then the car can then be registered with the DVLA, and UK registrations plates fitted.
